Welcome to a transformative dialogue about the future of our theatre industry and our planet
How can the London and UK theatre community become a leading charge in the fight for a liveable world?
Great work and important conversations are happening across the performing arts industries. Passionate advocates for change exist in theatres, drama schools and companies in every corner of the country.
In 2025, we want to bring this commitment to change into the heart of the West End.
We are a small collective of West End producers, practitioners and supportive organisations wanting to be part of that change. We welcome conversations with others across the industry who are interested in our goals and would like to get involved.
For two weeks, theatre’s makers, audiences, funders and supporters will meet on common ground and look towards the future with honesty, hope and resolve.
Placing climate centre stage
Our goals
Theatre has the capacity to touch and influence the climate conversation in many ways. From the materials we use to the stories we tell, few sectors are better placed than ours to reconsider how every facet of our work can have an impact on today’s and tomorrow’s world.
We will:
Stress the urgency and immediacy of the climate crisis.
Show that climate stories belong on our stages.
Demonstrate low-impact and sustainable forms of theatre-making (including in a commercial context).
Urge large scale industry-wide action and foster dialogue between decision-makers at all levels.
Build a legacy of hope and optimism, inviting the wider artistic community to advocate for climate.
Show audiences and audiences of the future that the theatre community is ready to use its voice and influence in tackling these challenges.
Telling stories
This event will be an opportunity to challenge our industry to be better, to connect conversations that are already underway, and to ensure that the world’s most famous theatre district contributes meaningfully to the most pressing challenge of our time.
For two weeks, in the heart of London, we will be doing what theatre makers do best: tell stories. We’ll be challenging ourselves to do things in a radically different way, and to centre the climate in everything we make.
We will be expanding our team over the next few months and sharing more information about the project in Autumn 2024.

Act Green 2024 Survey

72%
think cultural organisations have a responsibility to influence society to make radical change in response to the climate emergency.
89%
expect organisations to be reducing and recycling waste, while 74% said a sustainability accreditation would make them view an organisation more positively.
